Monster Footprints
Using a magic marker, draw a footprint in a large sponge. Cut out the footprint and pour washable paint in a 1/8 inch aluminum pan. Press the sponge in the paint and sponge footsteps up your sidewalk to your front door for trick or treat-ers to follow. You can also paint footsteps around the side of your dark, spooky house. To stamp the other set of footprint, all you have to do is to flip your sponge upside down.
Green Pumpkins
Carve green peppers to look like a jack-o-lantern. You can arrange a whole row of them in your doorstep, in your window or even in your table and have a whole army of scary faces to greet your visitors at your door.
Ghoolies
Crumple up a piece of tissue paper and form it into a ball. Then, place it into the center of a flat piece of a tissue paper. Now pick up the corners of the flat tissue and twist it around the ball. Tie a twist tie or a string around the ghosts’ neck. Using a marker or a felt pen, draw a face. Then you can hang them up all over the house. You can also glue on yarn and make a black hat and cape from a colored paper to make a witch.
Wicked Witch
Cut the top of a cardboard milk carton and discard. Then cover the carton with a black construction paper and tape at the back. Cut a strip of white paper that is 3 inches wide and tape it around the top over the black paper. Then draw a scary witch’s face on the white paper using a marker, and glue on some yarn to make it look like her hair. Make a cone shape witch’s hat with black paper and glue on top. Then cut out arms and hands from the white paper and cut out the feet from the black paper. Tape it to the witch. Now glue a popsicle stick to one of the witch’s hand. Cut out two small pieces of yellow paper and cut a fringe at the bottom, then glue one on each side of the end of the popsicle stick for the broom. You can now hand it over to your friends during your Halloween party.
Bobbing Ghosts
Start with a 2 yard long and 1 yard wide piece of cheese cloth. Place a helium filled white balloon in the middle of the fabric and gather it loosely around the balloon. Next is draw a scary mask on the cloth using a marker. You can place the ghosts inside a box and let people open the box so the ghost will float up and scare everyone. Another option is to place them on a string in front of an open window or a fan and watch them move in the breeze.
Cobwebs
Cut strings into 4 foot length and tape them to the ceiling. Make your room dark for this effect. Just before your guest arrive hold a bowl of water up to the strings to get it wet. So when your guests arrive, they would walk into the wet, slimy thing where it would brush across their foreheads to scare them.
Scary Body Parts
Use this as a decoration for your dimly lit room for your Halloween Party. Have several bowls of body parts displayed to horrify your friends. Cut up a bunch of hotdogs to look like severed fingers. Also cook up some spaghetti noodles and add some red and blue food colorings to it to make it look like veins. Put some cocktail onions in a bowl for it to look like eyeballs. And you can also fill a red balloon with warm water and spread it with strawberry jam, invite your guests to touch your brain.
Crunching Bones Underfoot
Spread out some dried bread, pretzel and chips under a rug. When your guests walk across the rug, it will sound like their bones are crunching underfoot.
Sound Effects
It is a great idea to record scary sound effects and play it all throughout your party to create a scary ambiance. A large sheet of metal can create a great thunder sound. Pouring uncooked rice over a cookie sheets would make the sound of rain. Crinkle a handful of cellophane makes a great roaring fire sound. You can also record the sound of your own scream while your friends make spooky sounds. Snap carrots in half for the sound of breaking bones. Flap plastic bags to make a sound of flying bats. Slowly blow bubbles into a bowl with water for scary bog sound. Also try to find a squeaky hinge around the house and record it.
Lightning Your Party Area
Try to install a black light inside your room to make your guests white clothes glow blue. It can also add dramatic effect by making your paper cups glow. You can also dress as a skeleton to make the most of your black light bulb.
